Official name: Rackheath Road Level Crossing Date filmed: 14/08/2023 Video filmed at 16:28 Route: The Bittern Line (Norwich to Sheringham) Salhouse is the closest station Crossing type: Automatic Half Barrier Crossing (AHBC) Location: Salhouse Road, New Rackheath Trains featured: 755 407 (Greater Anglia) - 2:27 2S21 Sheringham ➡ Norwich | On-time Half-barrier level crossing found on a busy road which runs through the village of New Rackheath just outside of Norwich, Norfolk. In this video, the level crossing was active for almost two and a half minutes before the train appeared! This is much longer than what's to usually be expected at this type of crossing, and could be due to the lack of a stopping/non-stopping control facility (operated by the signaller) to keep activation time as close as possible to the typical safe time period between activation and train, or if there is such a system here, it was set to 'non-stop' for a stopping train by mistake. Salhouse Railway Station is around half a mile from here, and the activation started before the train had even stopped there.
