Telecanthus, also known as dystopia canthorum, refers to an increased distance between the inner corners of the eyelids (medial canthi) while maintaining a normal distance between the pupils. This condition can be congenital (present at birth) or acquired due to trauma or surgery2. Causes Congenital Disorders: Often associated with genetic conditions such as Down syndrome, Waardenburg syndrome, and Turner syndrome. Trauma: Injuries to the nasal-orbital-ethmoid (NOE) complex can result in telecanthus. Surgical Procedures: Removal of tumors or other surgical interventions around the eye area can lead to this condition. Symptoms Increased Intercanthal Distance: The distance between the inner corners of the eyelids is greater than normal. Potential Vision Issues: If associated with other eye abnormalities, it may affect vision. Diagnosis and Treatment Diagnosis: Measured by comparing the intercanthal distance to the interpupillary distance. Treatment: Surgical correction is often the main treatment, involving shortening and refixation of the medial canthal tendons #Telecanthus #dystopiacanthorum
