South Asia is one of the world’s most diverse and eye-opening regions, and a fascinating travel destination. Comprising of several countries, this area is home to a quarter of the world’s population and will surprise you at every corner. It provides a captivating mix of spectacular landscapes, beautiful villages, vibrant cities, spiritual diversity, incredible food, and friendly, welcoming people. In this video, I take you back to some of my favorite journeys, traveling to five (out of a total of eight) countries in South Asia: India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. From the bustling streets of Mumbai and Delhi to the breathtaking mountain landscapes in Northern Pakistan. From the ancient monuments in Kathmandu and Odisha to the modern urban centers of Bangalore and Hyderabad. From the green tea plantation of Haputale and Srimangal to the striking historic architecture of Rajasthan. From the impressive mosques in Lahore and Dhaka, to the mesmerizing Hindu and Sikh temples in India. And from the colorful markets in Kolkata to the beautiful beaches of Tamil Nadu. This metropolis is considered the commercial capital of India, and is bursting with energy and creativity. North from here is Rajasthan, a province packed with magical towns, full of historic monuments and intriguing old towns and bazaars. Traveling inland, we take a look the Taj Mahal, an icon of India, before we visit the nation’s capital Delhi. We cross the border and arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal, where we visit some mesmerizing Hindu and Buddhist temples. Nearby Bhaktapur is known for its beautiful Potters Square, where artisans create some incredible ceramics. And the small city of Pokhara is a heaven for outdoor enthusiasts, with fantastic hiking opportunities and several adventure sports. In Dharamsala, back in India, we have the chance to attend a teaching session of the Dalai Lama, and experience Tibetan culture from up close. And further West lies Amritsar, famous for the Golden Temple, located in the spiritual heartland of the Sikh community. Not far from the city is the Attari Wagah border, where we attend an entertaining ceremony. Our first city in Pakistan is Lahore, regarded as the cosmopolitan center of the country. Here, we explore the alleys and markets of the old town, and admire some impressive historic monuments. After a long train journey, we briefly visit Karachi, before heading back up North to Islamabad and Rawalpindi, which couldn’t be more different from each other. Northern Pakistan is perhaps one of the most beautiful natural areas in the region, if not in the world. Here, we travel through rugged mountain scenery and picturesque valleys, explore small villages around Skardu and Hunza, before we traverse the mighty Karakoram Highway. We venture East and arrive in Dhaka, capital and economic center of Bangladesh, where we are welcomed with open arms and a generous smile. Other stops in Bangladesh include the tea plantations around Srimangal and Sylhet. Right across the border is Kolkata, which shares the same Bengali roots as Bangladesh. Yet this city has its own distinct character. Not far from here is Odisha province, where we explore the beaches around Puri and various temples in Bhubaneswar and Konark. We briefly stop in the IT centers of Hyderabad and Bangalore, before we discover the province of Tamil Nadu. It’s full of beautiful temples, holy sites, and wonderful beaches. Our journey comes to an end on the island country of Sri Lanka, where we hike through a landscape of green tea plantations and misty mountains.
