So what's in it for the economical gardener? Well I've got some tips for you. Get excited! First let's start with plant material. I always recommend to folks if you're looking to save money to buy plants that can be easily divided or reproduced. One of my favorites is the Geranium. Very easy to start from cuttings. Simply take of a piece and start it in water or even in soil. Really easy to make more of these. Give them to your friends and put them all over your garden. I also like to say to folks, consider container gardening, less weeds, easy to maintain. This wine barrel: thirty bucks is the upper limit on prices you'd pay for a wine barrel. Drill holes in the bottom and you're ready to go. Now another tip for saving money, less effort: a nice mulch like this single grind gorilla hair. This would go well in your back yard to prevent weeds from sprouting. You could buy it in bulk from the landscape supply yard, usually they'll have it labeled, you'd get a large garbage bag full for say three or four bucks and if you have to you can buy a bag for you for around eight dollars. A lot of times you'll see clearances anywhere from thirty to fifty or seventy-five percent off. Sometimes gardeners are so passionate that they want to give away the plant material for free because they want to see it go to a good home. Things that just haven't survived the winter very well or things that need to be cut back, fertilized and brought to a good home are still nursery quality, great plants. So my final tip to you is: at your favorite nursery or garden center, find out if they've got a discount area. Look at what they've got because often times it'll save you a lot of money.
