Exploring A Forgotten California Ghost Town ...In Sonoma Ca. !!! There is a hill a very pronounced hill that sits at the top north end of the San Francisco bay, just beyond the edges of its great estuaries and flood plains, the first rise of land. General Vallejo the head and General of the frontier for the Mexican army built his home at its base the hill itself became a quarry in the decades that followed the gold rush until they no longer needed cobblestone for the streets of San Francisco and Oakland and San Jose, due to the invention of automobiles and paved roads. on top of the hill is a small ghost town , remnants from a lost chunk of history, we couldn't find any information on the original inhabitants , but the original structures are obviously a hundred years old. Theory: is that they are the remains of a semi permanent workers camp, but here they had all the left over stone you could want, and being immigrants who were good with stone work and masonry, they built little stone cabins and roads and alley ways bridges, gardens ,and lived in a little town. then history moved on , recording only the basic info on the quarry and its owner, but the story of the small ghost town was lost, now its only mentioned in short paragraphs referring to it as piles of rock stacked by modern hikers, we beg to differ. the geologic location and word of mouth history is evidence enough that it was a Miwok settlement , then a workers camp, and then as the workers were displaced its history fell into shadow, we are here to reveal as much as we can, hunt its details and save it from the oblivion of forgotten history. join us on another Quest For details !
