#christmas #africantradition #africanfood We woke up very early to milk camels and prepare breakfast for the family,as men and the young boys took the animals to the grazing fields. Women and young girls stayed behind to beautify houses for the coming Christmas celebrations. The animals were later taken to the community trough for water. Our main economic activity is pastoralism, and we earn a living through the sale of cattle. Pokot cattle are known for their soft and delicious meat because they feed on different herbs and natural leaves. The Pokot tribe is among the top producers of the best meat sold in butcheries in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya and Kampala the capital city of Uganda. In the evening, we prepared food for the family and friends ,cowpeas, which come in more than five varieties, and sorghum leaf soup, a nutritious indigenous meal rich in iron and good for the gut. Our ancestors also used sorghum leaves as a natural food dye. We shared food among family members and the children of our neighbours. Later, we prepared pumpkin leaves cooked in fresh milk and ghee for supper. Before going to sleep, we enjoyed a cup of herbal tea, ending the day in peace and togetherness.
