Homes in the Sehome Neighborhood, one of the best neighborhoods in Bellingham Washington, are typically older, with most being at least 30 years old, and nearly half being over 50 years old. Sehome neighborhood also has the highest housing density in Bellingham Washington, with many median priced homes being multi-family due to the close proximity of Western Washington University. The Sehome Neighborhood has a wide array of properties built in the late 1800’s through present day new construction. There are three distinct areas in the Sehome Neighborhood: the first being the west section along the Bellingham Bay waterfront where you’ll find many apartments and condos along N State St and Boulevard Rd, most having view of the Bay as well as close proximity to the South Bay Trail leading to Boulevard Park, Taylor Dock, as well as Fairhaven, and to the north into Downtown Bellingham. N State St is also a dense business district offering many restaurants and nightlife. The third distinct area of the Sehome Neighborhood is farther to the northeast, north of the Sehome Arboretum. Here many 19th century single family homes line narrow streets, most with views of the Canadian Cascade Mountains to the North. There is also another business district called the Sehome Urban Village, w/ newer condos and apartments, as well as restaurants and grocery stores along Samish Way. The gem of the Sehome Neighborhood is Sehome Arboretum. Situated atop Sehome Hill, the elevated protected forest area offers hiking trails connecting various neighborhoods as well as WWU & features an observation tower that offers bird’s eye views of Bellingham, the bay, and beyond. You will find many people enjoying walks and hikes in this forested sanctuary right in the middle of Bellingham Washington. Laurel Park is just north of Western Washington University, and Forest and Cedar Park just west of Western Washington University. The National Guard Armory building along N State St is a castle-like stone structure built in 1910. Over the decades it has been used for military training, a roller-rink, and WWU education. In 2018, a private party bought the armory and created a state of the art indoor pickle-ball facility called Armory Pickle-ball. Despite being relatively small in land mass, the Sehome Neighborhood is a densely populated housing & business hub for many of the other surrounding neighborhoods. WIth a high number of WWU students, the area also offers a diverse and plentiful array of things to do.
