The neural tourniquet: could stimulating the vagus nerve stop uncontrolled bleeding?

Scientists at the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research are studying electrical stimulation and what they are calling the “neural tourniquet” to tap into the vagus nerve to promote blood clotting and stop uncontrolled bleeding. Dr. Jared Huston, director of trauma research for the Department of Surgery at Northwell Health and associate professor in the Institute of Bioelectronic Medicine at the Feinstein Institutes, says this could be a game-changer for treating bleeding from car accidents, the battlefield, birth and medical conditions like hemophilia.
