Valeo India, part of the €17.3 billion technological and industrial leader in Powertrain, Electrification, Driving assistance systems, Thermal, and Lighting, Valeo Group, began its journey in India in 1997 with two entities – for clutches and friction materials. Today India's operations comprise eight production sites and one R&D centre, besides five distribution platforms spread over Chennai, Pune, Sanand, Gurgaon and Noida. It supplies to almost all the OEMs in all the vehicle segments in the country. The R&D centre offers engineering support and expertise for mechanical design, simulation, embedded software development, hardware, and functional safety design. Besides, it is involved in software development & testing for vision systems and global services for information systems & IT Infrastructure. Jayakumar G, India Group President, MD & Director on Board of all entities of Valeo in India, says, globally, electrification is accelerating very fast; it is faster than predictions. The success factor is to increase the pace of localisation. “We want to make our R&D centre a very important contributor globally,” he adds. This video features Valeo India’s Pune facility, which was hitherto manufacturing starters and alternators. Now it is getting ready for electrification. The newly installed line at the plant has 18 stations to make a 3-in-1 combo integrated with its global systems. Jayakumar says, “We believe in diversity in all forms – gender, disability and cultural. We introduced the concept ‘Able+’ for disability diversity. We have 41 speech and hearing-impaired people engaged in different lines in Pune. About 10% of the people working on the shopfloor are women and our goal is to increase that up to 25% in the next five years.” "In the near future, I see opportunities for Valeo India coming from electrification and sensors. As we localise more, we see opportunities for high-voltage solutions as well. The key is to have more competitiveness in India than other low-cost markets," Jayakumar adds.
