Today's video covers three C5-C6 disc injury exercises that can help reduce pain and improve your ability to carry out daily tasks. C5–6 disc injuries are typically related to disc bulges or disc herniations and are one of the most common causes of cervical radiculopathy and often result in compression or irritation of the C6 nerve root. This can lead to a distinct pattern of symptoms, including pain, numbness, or tingling that radiates down the lateral forearm into the thumb and index finger. In some cases, patients also report reduced sensation in this region and weakness in muscles like the biceps, brachioradialis, and wrist extensors—impacting daily activities like lifting, gripping, or carrying objects. Clinically, we also see diminished reflexes at the biceps or brachioradialis. In this video, we’ll break down the most common sensory and motor findings associated with a C5–6 disc injury and discuss how this condition presents in the clinic. I’ll also introduce some foundational rehab strategies that can help reduce nerve irritation and restore strength and mobility. These may include nerve gliding exercises, cervical unloading techniques, and strengthening movements for the affected muscle groups. Understanding these patterns is essential for building an effective, targeted plan for recovery.
