Zhang Zhongjing’s Wu Zang Lun: A Rediscovered Medical Treasure Zhang Zhongjing, celebrated as the author of the seminal Treatise on Cold Damage Disorders and Essential Prescriptions from the Golden Cabinet, profoundly shaped the history of Chinese medicine. Yet, few know that he also authored several other texts, now lost to time—except for the Wu Zang Lun (Five Viscera Theory), rediscovered in 1900 within the hidden library of China’s Mogao Caves at Dunhuang by Taoist priest Wang Yuanlu. Historical Significance of Wu Zang Lun in Traditional Chinese Medicine In this recorded webinar Prof. Qiang Cao & Dr. Yun Xiao explore The History and Compilation of Zhang Zhongjing’s Wu Zang Lun, the first comprehensive English-language study of this ancient text. Participants will journey through its rediscovery and analysis of eight surviving versions, uncovering their historical and cultural significance. They tell about the discovery of the Wu Zang Lun in the Mogao Caves, shedding light on its preservation and the remarkable journey of this ancient medical classic. Prof. Qiang Cao & Dr. Yun Xiao examine 8 surviving versions, including five from Dunhuang and three from Zhejiang, Korea, and Japan, uncovering their historical and cultural relevance to traditional Chinese medicine. They also analyze Zhang Zhongjing’s foundational Five Viscera Theory, a core concept that has shaped TCM practice. This is also available as a CEU class, at: https://www.tcm.ac/courses/zhang-zhon...
