Sonae, born in 1982 and active in Cologne for 20 years, is a producer and DJ, journalist and organizer, performer and composer for music in the context of exhibitions. Her debut album was released in 2015 on the Berlin label Monika Enterprise, followed by »I Started Wearing Black« in 2018 and »Music For People Who Shave Their Heads« in 2019. In between, she completed her Master's degree in Popular Music at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. She performs all over Europe and has networked with the scenes across Europe (including DJ mixes for The Wire, Self-Titled, Vice and Dublab). Her sets and tracks are characterized by great dynamism. They build up gradually and inevitably and discharge in a great celebration of the night and club culture. This has been the focus of her interest since the 1990s – for Sonae, the club is a magical place where the dissolution of identities, origins and genders becomes possible and where we can form the spirit of resistance against neoliberal impositions.
