Otis Wilson "Joe" Maphis was born on May 12, 1921 in Suffolk, Virginia and sadly passed away on June 27, 1986 in Nashville, Tennessee. He was an country music guitarist.🎸 He married singer Rose Lee Maphis in 1953 and they performed together, later referred to as "Mr & Mrs Country Music".🎶 He was one of the flashiest country guitarists of the 1950s and 1960s, Joe Maphis was known as "The King of the Strings".🎸🎶 He was able to play many stringed instruments with great facility.❤️ Rose Lee Maphis was born Doris Helen Schetrompf on December 29, 1922 in Baltimore, Maryland and sadly passed away on October 26, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.✝️ She was an country music singer and musician.🎶 She performed as a harmony singer and rhythm guitarist as a duo with her husband Joe Maphis. They were pioneers of the Bakersfield sound that developed in the mid-1950s. They appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including as cast members of Town Hall Party. The song “Dim Lights, Thick Smoke (And Loud, Loud Music)" is a country song written by Joe Maphis, Rose Lee Maphis, and Max Fidler. It was originally recorded in December 1952 by the bluegrass duo Flatt & Scruggs, and later released by Joe & Rose Lee Maphis in 1953 as a single.🎶 I had the honor and privilege to meet their son, Jody Maphis, and their daughter Lorrie Maphis last year when I was in Nashville. They were even kind enough to give me some very special guitar picks that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
