Step one in Music Learning Theory is acculturation to all tonalities and meters. These students have moved to music using Laban Efforts to feel the space between the beats. They learned songs in all tonalities and meters. Then they echoed rhythm patterns a neutral syllable in duple and triple meter. After this we moved on to rhythm syllable and I also taught them about meter and it tells us how the rhythm "feels." This shows me as a teacher they are able to audiate the difference between MACRO & MICRO beats in Duple Meter so they we can build from this foundation when we are starting to read rhythms in that meter.
