Residents in Beadnell say a crackdown on second homes has helped bring new life to the Northumberland village by boosting the number of full-time residents. Eight years after rules were introduced requiring homes on new developments to be used as permanent residences, locals say the community feels stronger and less deserted outside the tourist season. The move came after second homes and holiday lets made up about 61 per cent of the village’s roughly 750 properties, according to the 2021 census.
