Nest Two in 22: Loch Arkaig Osprey family season highlights 2022

Thanks to Woodland Trust from whose livestream I took the clips which went into this edited season summary. Check out their live camera supported by players of People's Postcode Lottery at https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/ospreys and on youtube:    • Loch Arkaig Osprey camera 2   Louis and Dorcha returned to Nest Two on 11th April, three eggs were laid on 24th and 27th April, and 1st May. The first chick hatched on 31st May and the second on Jubilee Day 2nd June. The third chick hatched on 5th June but sadly died on 12th June. With Louis providing well for his family by bringing a total of 545 fish to the nest, the older two progressed rapidly and were ringed LW5 (eldest) and LW6 (younger) on 12th July, and gender assessed as both being female. They were named Willow (LW5) and Sarafina (LW6), and fledged on 25th and 31st July respectively. Final sightings on the nest: On her last day 18th August, Dorcha brought her one and only fish to the nest. Willow was last seen on 28th August, Louis on 8th September and Sarafina on 9th September. We wish all of them well and look forward to the return of Louis & Dorcha in 2023. Louis is a father of ten, six with Aila (2017-2020), and four with Dorcha. In hatch order: 2017 Lachlan (JH4) 2019 Mallie (JJ0), Rannoch (JJ2) 2020 Doddie (JJ6), Vera (JJ8), Captain (JJ7) 2021 Aspen (LW3), Alder (LW4) 2022 Willow (LW5), Sarafina (LW6) Perhaps next year we will see a new resident family on Nest One which has been unoccupied since Louis’ previous mate Aila failed to return in 2021. Both Nest Cams will continue to stream over the winter, light permitting.
