Day/ Date: Thursday, 29 April 2021 Time : 4 PM to 5 PM Speaker :Dr Vishwesha Guttal [Associate Professor of Ecological Sciences at Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru] Abstract : Big data is the new buzz word in biology and pretty much all of the sciences. Here, based on examples from our research in ecology, I argue that big data can reveal novel insights only in light of theory. Specifically, I will talk about two examples: (i) high-resolution laboratory data of collective movement of fish schools and (ii) high-resolution satellite-based data from ecosystems.
