Today, I’m restoring a rare and incredible vintage lighter – the Kaschie K35, produced at Karl Schieder’s factory in Nuremberg between 1930 and 1936. I found it at a flea market for just $5, and only after bringing it home did I realize that the internal mechanism was completely broken. When I started researching this model, I was shocked to see that similar lighters sell on eBay for anywhere between $315 and $955! However, restoring it turned out to be quite a challenge. Main Issues: ✅ The internal mechanism was broken, and the parts were made of ZAM (zinc alloy). This material is great for manufacturing complex parts through hot pressing, but it’s fragile and impossible to solder. To repair it, I had to apply a copper coating, solder it with lead-based solder, reapply copper to conceal the solder, and finally nickel-plate it. ✅ The fuel tank was missing. This lighter had a unique design where fuel was poured into a tank, and then it traveled up the wick. I had never seen this type of construction before. To replace it, I crafted a new tank from copper sheet or brass plate, soldering it with 40% silver-content solder. ✅ The flint tube was too wide, making it impossible to use a standard flint—it would simply fall out. Perhaps this lighter originally required a special flint. To fix this, I removed the old tube and installed a new one with an inner diameter suitable for a Zippo-style flint. ✅ The outer body, specifically its nickel plating, was severely damaged. Scratches and wear made it impossible to restore. So, I removed the old nickel coating using electrolysis, sanded and polished the body, and applied a new shiny nickel plating to bring back its original appearance. This project required patience and unconventional solutions, but the result was worth it! This rare vintage lighter has been brought back to life and is now a true collector’s piece. 💬 Rate my restoration from 1 to 10 in the comments! 🔥 Support the channel – hit the like button, subscribe, and share this video! 👍🔔 Become a channel sponsor, and you'll gain access to exclusive bonuses.
