Steve Winwood had previously been a member of the bands “The Spencer Davis Group” & “Traffic”, Eric Clapton & Ginger Baker were from the recently dissolved “Cream” and Ric Grech had been in an English band called “Family.” The recording sessions were interrupted by tours of Scandinavia and the U.S. but despite being rushed, the album was hugely successful both critically and commercially. It reached No. 1 in the U.S., U.K., Canada, The Netherlands, Norway & Denmark and was a Top Five hit in France, Germany & Australia. It’s estimated to have sold more than 8,000,000 copies worldwide.
