Ducati Monster 821, 2018-2020, Headlight low & high beam together hack + LED globes install This video is for the 2018-2020, 821 other year models are different There is info on the net about earlier models but NOTHING for the 2018-2020 models so thought someone might find this useful as it took me a while to figure it all out Stock headlight is NOT really good So replace globes with LED's instead Stock is either low OR high beam globe on, high beam is NOT both together So splice a 1N4007 diode between the low & high beam wires to make both globes lit in high beam ONLY Most diodes will have a stripe on one end. This needs to go toward the low beam headlight wiring - white - low beam light green - high beam red - middle parking lights black - ground ? yellow - ? method - I took the headlight off & stripped most of the wire sheath away I did cut too much of the white wire casing away as I was going to solder the diode to the wires but found out that the diode can just slip into the wire between the wire core & it's casing snugly So insert diode between the white - low beam & the light green - high beam wire making sure the stripe on one end of the diode goes toward the low beam wrap white & light green wire snugly together with insulation tape to keep diode from moving wrap all 5 wires together with insulation tape connect light back to bike & plug in IF I had to do it again I would just half slice each wire casing to insert the diode The diode does go in very tightly & the diode's wire is long, stiff & thin It's NOT going to move much Wouldn't even have to take the light off Could probably do it with it still plugged in But would be easier unplugged to straighten & wiggle the wires around to get the diode in straight LED install - I went for the LEDPerf mini LED's google "ledperf LED Conversion Kit Bulbs for Ducati Monster 821 (2018 - 2020) - Mini Size" can buy low OR high OR both together make sure it is the 2018-2020 year version as the bases & cable ends are different for earlier years the bases of the globes come off to enable that to be fitted first & locked down with the globe retainer clip then you just push the rest of the globe into it both globes came with a controller on the wiring which is IMPOSSIBLE to fit inside the housing So drilled 4 holes in cover to have the controllers live outside cable tie controllers to the brackets between the head-stem & forks after light fitted high beam fits in easy & does NOT touch the cover BUT low beam is a problem extremely tight between the housing & circuit board BUT can force it in globe protrudes way too much to put the cover back on So I hack-sawed at 45deg part of the top section away & sanded off the edges to enable the cover to go on better These are the mini one's ! how would you install the larger standard size one's ??? globes came with NO real instructions to install fan still works & does NOT touch the cover There is still a small gap at the low beam end but the bolts now do go in most of the way To waterproof it I silicone the whole cap to the housing as well globes are CANBUS certified light dip switch works on low beam, will flash the high beam overall - I'm happy with the result I can see again !!! -------------------------- wasn't attending to make a YouTube video of this but since I had a few photos & videos of work in progress ...
