The story begins with a small red-haired boy in rural America standing in the rain when he is suddenly compelled to go to the “Galaxy Arcade”. Upon entering, he sees a game called “Asteroids” and begins to play and is immediately drawn into that world.. Eons ago, in a remote arm of the galaxy, a cluster of ancient stars burned through their final breaths and exploded in titanic supernovae. The force of their death shuddered across countless light-years, tearing thriving worlds to pieces and casting their shattered remains into vast rivers of asteroids. Entire planets were hurled free of their suns, transformed into wandering giants drifting aimlessly through the void. For millennia these rogue stones and vagrant worlds roamed the darkness—silent, merciless heralds of extinction. Centuries passed, and the cosmic storm reached inhabited systems. Advanced civilizations sounded global alerts as their deep-space sensors detected the incoming tides of destruction. Some worlds, blessed with foresight, had forged planetary defense cannons the size of mountains, capable of hurling radiant beams into the heavens. These worlds fought valiantly, turning night skies into blazing battlegrounds. But others—unprepared and unsuspecting—were shattered beneath a rain of fire. Rogue planets swept too close, their immense gravity ripping oceans from neighboring worlds, drowning continents beneath apocalyptic tsunamis before dragging entire atmospheres off into space. Even Earth’s distant future met its end—obliterated in a catastrophic planetary collision seen across the stars. Among the worlds standing against this celestial onslaught was an advanced humanoid civilization on the galaxy’s outer rim. When the alarm blared across their sky cities, the call went out to every pilot of the planetary defense force. In towering hangars of light and alloy, warriors donned their exo-plasma suits, their armor igniting with violet arcs of energy. Kara—renowned pilot and devoted mother—held her daughter close one final time, sparks of blue white energy danced along her cheek, her trembling hand brushing away the tears on the child’s cheek. She whispered a promise she was not certain she could keep. Moments later, Kara and the other pilots streaked into the upper atmosphere, their fighters piercing the void to meet the incoming torrent of asteroids. The sky became a storm of fire and debris. Pulse cannons roared, vaporizing colossal rocks into glowing clouds of dust. Ships were struck, shattered, and lost—but each fallen pilot bought precious time for those below. Kara fought through wave after wave, her fuel dwindling, her weapons nearly silent. Yet the final asteroid—a monstrous fragment capable of annihilating her home—still hurtled forward. With every system flashing critical, Kara made her choice. Determination burned within her eyes as she aligned her failing fighter on a collision course. She whispered her daughter’s name one last time—and accelerated. A blinding flash erupted in the heavens, brighter than dawn. The asteroid vanished in a radiant burst, shattered into harmless dust that drifted gently through the night like falling stars. On the surface, Kara’s daughter stood beneath the sky, watching in silence. The brilliant light reflected in her eyes, and though no words were spoken, she knew. A single tear rolled down her cheek—not of despair, but of pride—for her mother had saved their world. Kara’s sacrifice had ensured their future among the stars.
