Automobile Clear coat is slowly transitioning from Solvent based to water based. Two layers of water based clear, , for instance, is softer and thinner than two layers of solvent based clear. Head is the worst enemy of modern day clear coat. Remember, outside in the sun, the panel as a whole can heat up expanding and contracting in unison. But during paint correction, only one concentrated area is being super heated with the rest of the panel at room temps. This it a ton of stress on the clear.
