Develop your own voice as an improviser

As requested by a couple of you, here are a few thoughts on how to grow your language and vocabulary for improvisation. Largely focused around playing blues, but many of these ideas are relevent to all improvised forms of music. This is an endless journey, and I am still working on all of these ideas myself, and these are just a few thoughts I often share with my students. I am a professional musician from the UK, and I'm primarily known for my work in the folk/country duo Smith & Brewer. I do all sorts of session work for other artists, and I perform in a number of other bands to pay the bills.
