Painting an anime scene with watercolor

After this experience, I'm a true believer for painting landscape outdoor. It was very difficult for me to come up with a scenery painting or background idea for my anime characters, but after walking outside in the woods, the inspiration just came easily. Experiencing the scenery and sketching in person helps me to understand the feeling I want to convey. Seeing the light and shadow and shapes in person helps me to make decisions to simplify the painting. After the initial sketch, the idea to add an elf as a character came up much easier than just sitting in front of computer browsing photos.
