Audiothing just brought out a plugin for desktop and iOS (both iPad & iPhone) that’s their take on the Juno-60. In this video I review it and compare the most important features - the sound of the oscillators, filters, chorus and unison - with another plugin, TAL-U-NO-LX, widely regarded as a fantastic Juno emulation. Btw, see below for a comment about the filter comparison in this vid! Also, apologies for wrongly referring to the saw oscillator as triangle at one point! It's been a very busy week. Back to the 2 plugins - Does one sound better than the other? Which would I choose if I could only have one, and why? I can’t compare with the hardware, I don’t own any, so I am focusing on which sounds and plays better, not on which one is more authentic. If you have any thoughts on which is better or more authentic, please drop a line or two in the comments! **Quick note about the filter comparison in this video: I used an LFO here, so there is a certain steppiness inherent in that, but note that both TAL-U-NO-LX and June have a certain steppy sound when doing manual filter sweeps with the finger too. I guess this is the gritty non-linear character of the original.I almost redid that section of the video after realizing I should probably show a manual filter sweep, but decided not to after comparing manual sweeps, there wasn’t really enough difference. However, having tried doing filter sweeps on both June and TALU-NO-LX now with their internal LFOs, they both sound pretty smooth. TAL-U-NO-LX sounding better with a midi LFO filter sweep than June, likely means that TAL-U-NO-LX uses some kind of interpolation to help smooth out the steppiness of midi CC modulation. Also, apologies that I referred to June’s triangle oscillator in this vid, I should of course have said sawtooth! ** Oh - I just realised one thing in June’s favour btw: it runs on iPhone too, but TAL-U-NO is iPad only! Here is my video, mentioned in this vid, on the recent TAL-U-NO-LX update, focusing on its MPE features: • TAL-U-NO-LX: The Best Juno-60 Synth Plugin...
