Series Playlist ▶    • PlayStation Racing Games   For the purpose of this Playthrough/Drivethru, I kept the difficulty on 'Rookie' just to make it easier to go through all what the game offers - excluding Time Trial. Released in 1997, V-Rally was the first edition of the highly successful V-Rally series. Two versions were released; the original '97 Championship Edition and later in 1998, the Platinum version V-Rally: Championship Edition, which included DuelShock support and an extra car. The Toyota Corolla WRC. Rallying legend Ari Vatanen helped the developers on how the cars should handle collisions and drifts. The game features three gameplay modes: Arcade, Championship, and Time Trial. Arcade mode consists or a series of multiple stages racing against 3 CPU cars. The difficulty of each group of stages also shows an increase in the number of stages you take part in. Easy consists of 4 stages, medium consists of 6 and hard has 8. With arcade mode you are given a countdown timer, which you must reach certain checkpoints during the stages to be able to continue. Should the timer run out, you get a game over and use up one of your credits. Should you lose all your credits you are taken back to the main menu screen. You begin with three credits and can gain an extra two with stage wins. Championship mode is similar to Arcade, but stages have no timer or checkpoints. It is also points-based. Gaining the fastest average overall time in the respective location's three stages will grant you 5 points in the championship, 2nd will give you 3 points, 3rd 1 point and 0 for 4th. Time Trial is exactly what it says on the tin - you can race on any of the 40+ stages to get the fastest time. The game also features a split-screen 2-player mode.
