🚙 Drive America’s Highways for 37 miles west along Interstate 40 from Glenrio to Tucumcari, New Mexico — across wide-open plains into a classic Route 66 town. This westbound drive along Interstate 40 begins at the Texas–New Mexico state line near Glenrio, where the landscape immediately opens into the broad, wind-swept expanse of eastern New Mexico. The video starts just inside New Mexico, leaving behind the quiet remnants of a once-bustling Route 66 border stop. From the first mile, the highway reflects its role as a major transcontinental corridor, carrying both long-haul freight and cross-country travelers across the High Plains. The terrain here is expansive and largely treeless, defined by subtle elevation changes, distant mesas, and a horizon that seems to stretch endlessly westward. As the drive progresses, the highway maintains a steady, gently rolling profile. Long tangents and wide shoulders emphasize the openness of the region, while occasional frontage roads and overpasses hint at older alignments and rural access points. This stretch closely parallels segments of historic U.S. Route 66, and traces of that legacy can still be seen in abandoned structures, service roads, and signage that recalls the Mother Road era. The sense of isolation is part of the character here—traffic flows smoothly, and the scale of the landscape dominates the experience more than any single landmark. Approaching Tucumcari, low mesas and buttes begin to rise more prominently from the plains, adding texture to the skyline. The city gradually comes into view, marked by its distinctive collection of motels, signage, and roadside Americana. The drive concludes at Exit 335, Route 66 Boulevard, the primary gateway into Tucumcari. This interchange provides direct access to one of New Mexico’s most iconic Route 66 communities, where classic neon, mid-century architecture, and desert scenery converge. It’s a stretch where the roadside towns still offer plenty to explore. --- 🎵 Music: https://interstate411.us/music/i40-gl...
