It’s been almost a month into the Pacific Crest Trail. I’m slowly starting to acclimatise myself to my new way of life in the outdoors. Waking up early, walking all day long up and down mountains, meeting really cool people along the way, and falling asleep after a fulfilling and challenging day. There have been really exciting milestones for me during this stretch. I reached the 300-mile marker, solidified my trail family, slept under the stars for the first time, hiked under cold rain, relaxed in natural hot springs, and dealt with the worry of hiking in the snowy San Jacinto mountains. The nights continue to be cold as I bundle myself in warm clothes in my down quilt. Waking up in the cold damp mornings proves to be a challenge as my tent is often frosted over from the cold temperatures and my quilt a little wet from the condensation. It definitely helps me wake up and hike fast to warm up. Once I’m hiking, I'm nice and toasty and have to eventually delay. As we approach Mount San Jacinto, I’ve started to get more anxious and worried about this section. California has received the highest snowfall this year in record history. There’s been a lot of talk and caution about tackling the snow-covered mountains. And all this talk has definitely impacted my confidence and decision-making. I don’t have a lot of hiking experience, let alone in the snow! So I feel confused and nervous about what I should do, and trying not to let what other hikers are doing impact my decision. We like to say out here - hike your own hike! The episode takes an unexpected turn with the discovery of Trail Magic—a legendary act of kindness from strangers. I share my excitement of stumbling upon a table laden with snacks, pizza, and beer, a heartwarming gesture that replenishes her spirit and emphasizes the generosity of fellow hikers. Amidst personal growth and adventure, I opened up about challenging moments where doubts crept in. However, I learn valuable life lessons—encountering strangers' kindness and the trial's ability to provide support during tough times.
