TVK Chief Vijay Breaks Silence As Death Toll In Karur Tragedy Rises To 38 | India Todya

At least 38 people, including women and children, died after a stampede broke out during Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay’s campaign rally in Tamil Nadu's Karur on Saturday. Several people fainted at the heavily overcrowded rally as the crowd went out of control, forcing the actor-turned-politician to temporarily pause his speech. Following the incident, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin posted on social media, calling the reports from Karur “worrying.” He said he had instructed officials to provide immediate medical care to those affected. Stalin has set up a commission to probe rally stampede deaths and announced that it will be led by Justice Aruna Jagadeesan. Stalin added that he had spoken with Senthil Balaji, Health Minister Subramanian, the district collector and senior police officials. Minister Anbil Mahesh was also directed to provide assistance from nearby Tiruchirappalli.
