Haven’t heard many good things about back surgeries? Maybe that’s because they were done for the wrong reasons. Spinal fusion surgery for low back pain only provides a 50% chance of 50% relief. Those are not odds I like! However… pain, numbness, tingling, and/or weakness in the arms or legs caused by pinched nerves within the spine are reliably alleviated with surgery if non-operative measures fail to provide sufficient relief. Couple that with minimally invasive techniques, and we’ve got a recipe for success! Suffering from low back pain but not sciatica? Lumbar disc replacement and endoscopic medial branch transection are two non-fusion, motion-preserving options that can be beneficial in certain circumstances.
