Ganesh Thapa, the former president of the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), has recently been involved in a series of disputes with the organization following the conclusion of his 10-year ban imposed by FIFA for corruption-related offenses. FIFA Ban and Return to ANFA Thapa's ban, which began in November 2015, officially ended in April 2025. The ban was a result of FIFA's Disciplinary Committee finding him guilty of corruption, including accepting bribes and violating several articles of the FIFA Code of Ethics. Following the completion of his ban, Thapa attempted to re-engage with ANFA activities. He was nominated by RC 32 Club Academy as its representative for the ANFA General Assembly. However, ANFA's General Secretary, Damodar Bhattarai, filed a petition to block Thapa's participation. The Patan High Court ruled in Thapa's favor, stating that his presence would not adversely affect the General Assembly. Denial of Entry to ANFA General Assembly Despite the court's ruling, on May 9, 2025, Thapa was barred from entering the ANFA General Assembly held in Dhulikhel. Nepal Police and ANFA security personnel prevented his entry, leading Thapa and his supporters to protest outside the venue. Kavre Police stated that they were deployed at ANFA's request and that entry decisions were managed solely by ANFA's security personnel. Defamation Case Against ANFA General Secretary In March 2025, Thapa filed a defamation lawsuit against ANFA General Secretary Kiran Rai. Thapa accused Rai of making baseless allegations, including claims that Thapa had embezzled Rs 170 million from ANFA and later deposited Rs 80 million into ANFA's account following a money laundering investigation. Thapa denied these allegations, calling them unfounded and an attack on his character. He filed the case under sections 306 and 307 of the Criminal (Code) Act, 2074, seeking legal action and compensation. Ongoing Tensions and Legal Battles The ongoing disputes between Thapa and ANFA highlight the persistent tensions within Nepalese football governance. Thapa's attempts to re-engage with ANFA activities have been met with resistance, despite legal victories in court. The defamation case against Rai further underscores the strained relationship between Thapa and current ANFA officials. #GaneshThapa #ANFA #NepalFootball #FIFA #NepalSports #FootballPolitics #GaneshThapaVsANFA #NepalNews #FootballNepal #ThapaReturns #ANFADispute #CorruptionInSports #NepaliFootball #SportsControversy #ThapaBanEnds
