A one-minute video overview about the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of S.H.I.E.L.D's Helicarrier, its functions, abilities and characteristics as depicted in the MCU movies, and Avengers expanded universe. So, what is the Helicarrier? The Helicarrier is an advanced aerial vehicle utilized by SHIELD, with a design and function closely resembling that of a modern aircraft carrier. They are used as highly strategic mobile bases from which SHIELD can perform a number of operations - made possible by the utilization of sustained, independently-powered flight, via four massive engines that allow the craft to hover in a stationary position, or traverse the globe. Like an aircraft carrier, the Helicarrier has a pair of runways that can be utilized by air strike vehicles, as well as a hangar bay. The ships come equipped with retro-reflective panels lining their hulls, making them invisible to normal human vision below a certain elevation. They also possess radar cloaking capabilities. In the event of an emergency or evacuation, the Helicarrier comes equipped with several life rafts, as well as anti-air weaponry. The original helicarrier maintained flight by the use of four extremely large propellers along the sides of the ship. However, after realizing this to be a point of vulnerability for attack, Tony Stark upgraded the craft to use his Iron Man repulsor technology to remain aloft. Marvel movies featuring the Helicarrier are: Avengers (2012) Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) Captain America: Civil War (2016) If you enjoyed this video, please subscribe, like, and share! www.minuteexplained.com
