Ampico Roll # 63173. Seems like a roll to celebrate the final repairs to get the Reproducing Mechanism working again. To get the full effect you may have to turn up your speakers, the loud parts of this piece are quite loud in person. Its been a frustrating situation since well before Christmas. Seemed like one thing fixed and a new problem would occur. To those new to the Piano its rather historical as the Ampico B was the latest design of the roll type of player. That switch from Model A to B happened around 1929. The depression didn't help the falling sales as Radio and Records were gaining followers. The Duo Art and Ampico Companies combined to help save money. But a fire at the Duo Art Factory ended the ability to put the system into Steinways which were always their top brand. So far as is known only two Steinways ended up with custom installed B systems. Ours is the last one installed in 1942. It was sold as a standard one leg type Steinway, the customer in Clayton Missouri wanted a reproducing piano so Steinway sent the piano to what was left of the Ampico Factory. The double legs, ( from Mason & Hamlin Reproducers) were installed on the Steinway. as the wooden skirt that helps to conceal the lower parts of the reproducer's System. The other Steinway which was found also was from the late 30's and had the same cabinet changes as well.
