Welcome back, Classical MIDI fans, and Happy Star Wars Day! May the Fourth be with you always, as I offer you today's special, the "Main Title" from John Williams' Star Wars: A Suite for Orchestra! Considered by nearly everyone to be the greatest original film score of all time, from the instant that timpani flam and opening chord blast you in the face, you are instantly aware that what you're about to experience is without peer. This rendition is not the actual cue from the score itself, but the first movement of the Star War's Suite for Orchestra, edited by Williams himself, and published by Hal Leonard. Imagine what it was like for me: it's 1977, I'm 9 years old, and for my birthday my grandfather takes me to the movies. Being a science fiction geek, I had begged him to see Star Wars, but NOTHING could prepare me for what I was about to experience. You have to understand that movies didn't have special effects back then! Rotoscoping, green/blue screen - NONE of it was considered possible at a cinematic scale, let alone the extent that George Lucas and his crew took it. The models were enormous -- the Death Star "track" was nearly 40 feet long! And then when you add in John Williams -- a man I consider to be one of the premier classical composers of the current era -- it was almost too much for me. On that day, the crawl started, the music exploded, and I was transformed. What was previously unheard of become possible, within one blast of a B-Flat Major Chord. I might still be a Star Trek kid at heart, but nothing will ever compare to that moment... I've waited a long time to feel confident enough to tackle this monstrosity, and it's my sincere hope that my performance here does the work and its composer justice. I'm using all my regular libraries, but at a level I've never had to match to date. Of particular note here is the immense sound that the Aaron Venture Brass Libraries offer -- unbelievable playability, but such an incredible sound!
