It's no secret...I love planting cover crops...especially multispecies cover crops! We have utilized them consistently for nearly 15 years and even completely reconfigured our crop rotation to work around our multi-species cover crops. While most people in our area do 4,6, or 8 way blends, we typically do about 20-25 species in ours to keep them very diverse and bring the price of seed/acre down. But today, I have a different blend that I'm about to mix up. I'm going to call this blend "Everything But The Kitchen Sink". The total amount of species in this cover crop will be FIFTY-FIVE! I've hit 50 in the past in a small area of a test plot. Ever since then, I have been chomping at the bit to break that record. Green Cover Seed is used to my extremely diverse blends where I routinely max out their Smart Mix Calculator's number of allowed species...but even they were a bit taken aback by the sheer number of species in this blend. Enjoy seeing me work through all the math to Finally deduce that the final number and follow along with me through the growing season! I'll show you how well its growing, possibly see how many different species we can find, track the moisture usage with GroGuru's moisture sensors, and just enjoy the beauty of a healthy multi-species blend. Hopefully it grows well and makes for a great field day in the first part of November! If you have any questions about the blend, cover crops, or anything else, please let me know in the comments! Maybe next year I'll try to beat this record...
