Formation & Members: Formed in Scarborough, Ontario, in 1997 by Dan-e-o, the group resulted from a collaboration between the Lyrical Coalition and The Horde. Members included Dues Paid, Jamayking, Charisma (Skizzz), Daneo, Whole Wheat Brothers, Parker, Korry Deez, Nish, Lancecape, Wiolife, Ratchdup, and the late Destro. "The Long Awaited" (1998): Released in March 1998, this 6-track EP is considered a classic of Canadian underground hip-hop. Sound: The collective is heavily rooted in raw 90s "boom-bap" with dense lyricism. Connections: Members of Monolith were involved in other Toronto projects, including the group IRS (Instinctive Reaction to Struggle). Monolith's Legacy One Rock Records: The crew was closely associated with this independent label, which helped fuel the 90s Scarborough hip-hop scene. Reunions/Streaming: The debut EP was re-released/streamed in later years, keeping the group's legacy alive, with tracks often featuring production from ESP (East Sidewalk Products).
