Île Saint-Louis is one of two natural islands on the Seine river, in Paris (the other natural island is the Île de la Cité, where Notre-Dame de Paris is located). Île Saint-Louis is connected to the rest of Paris by four bridges to both banks of the river and to the Île de la Cité by the Pont Saint-Louis. Île Saint-Louis witnessed the construction of a large number of mansions, which earned it the nickname “the island of palaces”. The housing development was actually completed in 1664. A certain number of these hotels are the work of the architect Louis Le Vau (who settled there with his family in 1639) and his brother François Le Vau (also installed on the island).
