Asparagus is a perennial vegetable and makes a valuable addition to the garden. To plant asparagus, choose a variety you like such as Jersey Giant or Mary Washington. To start planting, first soak Asparagus roots in water for 1 hour, dig trenches to plant Asparagus. Trench should be at least 6 in deep and 12 in wide. Plant spacing for Asparagus is 18 in apart and row spacing is 3 to 4 feet apart. Plant asparagus in trenches while fanning the roots in al directions and keeping the crown raised and straight up. Cover with most, water to make the soil moist and cover with mulch to suppress weeds and retain moisture.
