Geovert were engaged by Rio Tinto to deliver a critical geotechnical remediation solution at the West Angelas site, enabling the safe resumption of mining activities after a significant highwall failure. This large-scale rockfall protection project involved the stabilisation of a hazardous overhang in the Centre Pit North (CEPN), using advanced rock anchoring, TDR monitoring systems, and engineered mesh installations. Through rigorous planning, risk assessment, and execution, Geovert deployed a combination of mechanical and rope access techniques to implement the engineered solution safely and efficiently. Over 6,000m² of high-tensile mesh and nearly 1,000 rock bolts were installed with zero lost-time injuries (LTIs). The outcome: a fully stabilised slope, ongoing geotechnical monitoring capability, and safe, profitable access to previously quarantined ore.
