How to make thrown handles for jugs and mugs - Ridge Pottery (2012)

Douglas Phillips demonstrates an eastern Mediterranean way to throw handles on the potters' wheel. Thrown handles are an alternative to other ways of making handles such as pulling or extruding handles. Discussion includes pots made by John Reeve, Bernard Leach and Wally (Walter) Keeler. I’ve taken several videos at Ridge Pottery Summer Schools. The demonstrations are informal, often impromptu, and show a particular making technique and/or illustrate elements of a pot’s shape, form and function. As well as the demonstration there is often discussion with students that lend the videos an informal quality which (I think) adds to their interest and enjoyment.
