I was pleased to speak at the 3rd International Symposium of the UNESCO Chair on Science Diplomacy and Scientific Heritage, entitled “Cross-Continental Circulation of Knowledge and Scientific Bridges: Historical Legacies and Emerging Collaborations between the #muslimworld and #latinamerica "in Istanbul, Turkey. I participated in the first thematic panel: "Cross-Continental Collaboration: Science Diplomacy, Cultural Bridges, and Counterflows" and presented a paper entitled "Re)connections Between Latin America and the Muslim World: Decolonial Politics, Ethics, and Liberation Theology" It was a fantastic opportunity to discuss the historical and contemporary relationship between the Muslim World and Latin America, addressing the question of Islamic epistemological systems at the area of increasing interest for decolonial theories as alternative to Western-based ethical and knowledge systems. This event shows how science and culture can build bridges across continents, moving beyond traditional centers of power in academia. The Conference, hosted by Ibn Haldun University (Istanbul) and jointly organized by the Alliance of Civilizations Institute at Ibn Haldun University (Türkiye), the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS) at the University of Sharjah (UAE), the UNESCO Chair on Science Diplomacy and Scientific Heritage at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Youth and Education Service Foundation Foundation (TÜRGEV), brought together scholars from 14 countries to explore the circulation of knowledge between the Muslim World and Latin America.
