Short Dress Gal (Sam Morgan) - Sam Morgan's Jazz Band - voc. Sam Morgan and Roy Evans – Rec. New Orleans Oct. 22, 1927 - Columbia 14351-D - Mx. 145000 - Take 2 , dowwnloaded from ''Internet Archive': https://archive.org/details/8OverInTh... . Personnel according to Brian Rust: Sam Morgan (Cnt,Vcl), Isaiah Morgan (Cnt), Jim Robinson (Tb), Andrew Morgan (Cl,Ts), Earl Fouché (As), O.C. Blanche r(P), Johnny Davis (Bj), Sidney Brown (SB), Roy Evans (D, Vcl). Sam Morgan's Jazz Band, one of the finest New Orleans hometown bands, toured widely in the area , playing in New Orleans and in other towns along the Gulf Coast, and often performed on riverboats , competing with Fate Marable’s band for popularity. Morgan recorded only 8 tunes and cut four sides at Werlein’s Music Store on Canal Street in New Orleans on April 14, 1927 , followed by another four on October 22, 1927, two of which are spirituals (very original decision). The Band melodically played in the old New Orleans style, but successfully making use of the saxsophone instead of the clarinet, where the alto saxophone of Earl Fouché, one of the best saxophonist in New Orleans during that period., stands out. Moreover for these recording sessions the Band used the piano, that was not always used in live performances; in the two Band photos in the video the pianist is not present. The photographs and the recording in this video are more then 50 years old. Copyright Disclaimer under Section 107 of the Copyright Act 1976, allowance is made for "FAIR USE" .
