This place BOOMED during the early 1900s gold rush and went bust just as fast — leaving behind crumbling bank walls, old bottle houses, and wide open streets that once bustled with thousands of people. Absolutely surreal. Then it was back into Death Valley where the wildflowers were putting on a show — color stretching across the desert floor as far as you could see. We made stops at the Harmony Borax Works outdoor display, where mule teams once hauled borax across some of the harshest terrain on earth, and wrapped up at the Furnace Creek Visitor Center to soak in the history of this incredible national park. This is backroads America at its absolute best — ghost towns, desert blooms, and history hiding in plain sight.
