The L6/40 (Carro Armato L6/40) was a light tank operated by the Italian Army during World War II.The L denotes the light tank class (Leggero).283 tanks were produced from 1941 to the end of 1942. It was mainly used as a reconnaissance tank in deserts and plains. Fiat Ansaldo had been working on a prototype 5 t light tank since 1936 as an export tank that was an expansion and development of the L3. The 5 t light tank prototype No. 3 became the prototype for the L6 light tank. The basic design of the L6's body was almost the same as that of the L3 bean tank except for the turret, but the undercarriage was completely redesigned, with two sets of bogies with two rolling wheels suspended by a torsion bar suspension via long swing arms. The M11/39 medium tank, which preceded the L6, had leaf-spring suspension, and all Italian medium and heavy tanks that were mass-produced after the L6 had the same type of suspension, resulting in the L6 having the most distinctive suspension of all Italian tanks. As a result, the L6 had the most distinctive suspension of all Italian tanks. #Carro Armato L6/40 #L6/40 #World War II #Italian Army #Tank
