Owen Robertson is currently undertaking an apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering. He is halfway through his four year apprenticeship and has spent time studying at Inverness College UHI and North Highland College UHI alongside working at OIC Marine Services at Scapa, where he is learning the practical skills he needs as an electrical engineer. Watch his video to learn more about his apprenticeship journey [inc link]. Jobs in engineering exist in many local sectors including marine, offshore, agriculture, renewables and construction. As well as apprenticeship opportunities, locally the following engineering courses are available: At school you can undertake Skills for Work in Engineering. This is a National 5 qualification which provides basic progression into Further Education or for moving directly into training. It focuses on the broad areas of Mechanical, Fabrication, Electrical, Electronic, Maintenance and an element of Design and Manufacture: https://www.orkney.uhi.ac.uk/schools/... Once you have left school, an HNC in Engineering Systems will give you the required technical training needed to be a technician in design, research, development and service support activities in engineering, manufacturing and consultancy. An HNC can also act as a springboard into the second year of an engineering degree, if you wish to undertake further study: https://www.orkney.uhi.ac.uk/courses/...
