This video is our complete guide on how to port forward a Minecraft server. When this video is complete, you will be playing Minecraft with your friends on your Minecraft server. Let’s get started. First things first, we will need to get a few numbers. Specifically, we will need to find your IPv4 address and default gateway. To do this, open up the CMD on your computer. Then, in the command prompt, and type “IPCONFIG” and hit enter. This will give you a few numbers. Specifically, we want to get the IPv4 and Default Gateway from the CMD. If you have two default gateways, get the one that is just numbers not numbers and letters. After you have the default gateway and IPv4 taken down, open up your browser and open a new tab. Then, in the new tab, type the default gateway where you would normally type a website or search. Hit enter, and your router’s login page will open up. Your login box could be a variety of different things from a GUI to a pop-up to a bunch of different thing as every router is different. There is a link in the description above to our guide on finding your router’s login information. That will give you a bunch of different methods to locate your router’s login info. Once you have the login info for your router, login to your router. In your router software, you are looking for “Port Forwarding”. You may need to look around your router software as it could be called Apps & Gaming, Port Forwarding, Port Triggering, Security, Firewall, NAT Forwarding, or in an Admin or Administration tab. After you have found Port Forwarding, we can move to actually forwarding the port. Specifically, we will want to enter “Minecraft” for any Name or ID sections. Then, for the protocol, we will do “TCP/UDP” or “Both”. If both can’t be selected, do this twice - once for UDP and once for TCP. For anything involving the world “Port”, enter 25565. The port 25565 is the default port that Minecraft servers use. After you have entered your port, you will need to set an IP address. This is going to be the IPv4 address you got earlier. Instead of entering a local IP, you may need to select the device you are making your server on. After you have selected your device or added the IP, save your port forward. Congratulations! You now have completed a port forward for your Minecraft server! How do your friends join your Minecraft server though? Well, they will need to use your public IP address. There is a link in the description above to get your public IP. It’s important you only give this to your friends, family, and people you trust as with your public IP, people can DDOS you and even figure out where you live down to your latitude and longitude coordinates. Once you have your public IP, send it to your friends, and they will be able to join your Minecraft after you have port forwarded!
