We made it to Perhentian Kecil! This is the smaller, more local-feeling island compared to Perhentian Besar, which is more resort-y. Kecil still has that fishing village vibe, and it’s the perfect mix of chill and adventure. We got there thanks to a speedboat from Kuala Besut (35 MYR per person) and a 30 MYR national park fee—15 USD . The water is next-level clear, and the snorkeling is unreal. We swam with Nemo (clownfish), a reef shark, and so many fish! There are also some beautiful hidden beaches you can hike to if you don’t mind a bit of a jungle trek. We spent a couple of days here, just soaking it all in. If you're after an island that still feels real, with good vibes, affordable stays, and insane underwater life, Perhentian Kecil is the one.
