No matter where in the world you are taking your sailboat, you will probably have a need to tie off to shore at some point. Whether this is to keep your boat out of the wind/current outside of the anchorage or to get into a harbor that is already incredibly full! Having the knowledge, skills and equipment to be able to take a line to shore to help limit the movement of your boat is, literally, a life-saver! In this video, we review the factors you should consider before deciding to stern-tie, the reasons why taking a line to shore might be a good idea in certain locations and situations, the steps to plan and execute taking a line to shore and the process of exiting from your stern-tie scenario. Please share your favorite experience of taking a line (or two) to shore and do comment if you feel we have missed something in our video. Thanks for watching!
