New Epiphone Masterbuilt archtops versus The Loar Archtops. In fairness to Epiphone some players really like the plugged in sound which is maybe where they are strong but agree unplugged pretty thin and not much tone or volume. Not saying a total rip but just not much unplugged tone which an archtop should have. These sound very thin and dead to my ear but look great! Plugged in probably sounds great but not a real archtop with real unplugged tone. Not much tone our volume and I do not think worthy of using the Masterbuilt name on them.This guitar is mostly marketing bs to me. Too bad really as a lot of real spirit and body and soul to the old Epiphone Masterbuilt guitars.The old 30s, 40s and 50s Epiphone masterbuilt made in New York guitars were real instruments. The new ones are not .Chalk one up for corporate bs and marketing "Fluff". You are better off buying a loar or an old Epiphone from the 30s, 40s or 50s.I have owned many great vintage Epiphones so kind of sad to me what they put the name Masterbuilt on. They thought with their wallet......not with the idea of making a great guitar that is real old world value like the loar archtops. Not saying total waste of $899 but not worthy of the Masterbuilt name as not much real acoustic archtop voice and not what I would call old world value.They should have spent more on the top even if they needed to charge a bit more.
