Celebrating 300 years of the Lasallian mission. The Manhattan College community dedicates a community artwork to commemorate the life and legacy of St. John Baptist de La Salle for the Tercentenary. The Vatican declared 2019 as a Jubilee Year (Nov 17, 2018 - December 31, 2019) to recognize the 300th anniversary of the death of Saint John Baptist De La Salle (April 30, 1719). “A Jubilee Year offers the opportunity to express our faith through concrete actions in favor of those most in need. I invite all of you to celebrate the jubilee through practical acts of kindness and service to young people yearning for mercy and compassion,” says Brother Robert Schieler, FSC, Superior General of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (De La Salle Christian Brothers). St. John Baptist de La Salle is the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, and Patron of Christian Teachers. Manhattan College, as the first Lasallian institute of higher education in the world, created a community artwork collage of our Lasallian experiences. Students, faculty and staff contributed to this truly special work of art, and discussed the importance of living the Lasallian mission united with one heart, one commitment, one life. Learn about the history of St. John Baptist de La Salle and our commitment to his legacy in this video.
